
A message from your Sub-Committee organising the 25th Anniversary celebrations
The ANZ Region Committee is developing plans to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the inauguration of the Australian and New Zealand Region on 9th June 2012 and would like this to be an occasion in which all members participate, wherever they may reside in Australia or New Zealand.
Now whilst the Committee acknowledges that it could be a tall ask for everyone to attend the principal event being the Gala Dinner on the evening of Friday 8th June 2012, every member is invited and hopefully will accept an invitation to attend.
Whilst a Sub-Committee has been established to organize this Gala Dinner and associated events, it can be confirmed that it will be convened in Sydney and the preferred venue is The Menzies Hotel, which is the place in 1987 at which the visiting Senior Vice-President Derek Thornley in a general meeting of members of CIBSE in Australia announced on behalf of the Council of CIBSE the formation of the ANZ Region.
And, whilst it might seem a long way off into the future, to finalise the venue your Sub-Committee needs to know the members and their partners who will be in attendance, so please do some crystal ball gazing and let us have your feedback.
Members should also be aware that the Monday (11th) following the Gala Dinner is the Queens Birthday Holiday in NSW. Therefore it being a long Sydney weekend it is hoped that interstate members who will be attending the Gala Dinner will make the most of the holiday weekend and enjoy the sights and scenes of Sydney and its environs.
With the Gala Dinner on the Friday evening being blessed by the attendance of the CIBSE President and possibly Chief Executive Officer as well as other invited guests from kindred organisations who have supported CIBSE over the years, it will be a memorable occasion. There will also be an opportunity to meet and greet the CIBSE President on the Saturday morning at a late breakfast or possibly lunch - that detail has yet to be finalised.
Should members wish to organize a celebratory event about the same time through their local Chapter the Sub-Committee would provide logistic support for such an event. However the organizing would be the responsibility of the Chapter.
So, this being a brief introduction to the celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the ANZ Region your only immediate commitment is to advise the Sub-Committee of your intended attendance at the Gala Dinner and to do that, it would really be appreciated if you would email the Secretariat at secretary@cibse.org.au before end of September.
As always, should members have any thoughts and ideas as to how the ANZ Region should celebrate its past and forecast the foreseeable future then please let us know through the Secretariat.
