A 2011 Christmas Message from Peter Kinsella
Chairman, CIBSE ANZ Region & Vice President CIBSE

2011 has been a great year for the CIBSE ANZ Region. Although it seems to have flown by so quickly and the 2012 New Year is almost here, hopefully we can all take time over the break to become refreshed and prepare for the big year ahead.

Many of you will be very aware of the Knowledge Portal, but for those who are not, access to all CIBSE published guidance is now freely available to all members as part of your 2012 subscription.

The Knowledge Portal is a huge benefit to members in all Regions but particularly to the International members such as us within the ANZ Region. CIBSE documents and guidance have universally been held in high regard for their quality, depth and knowledge, but access over the years has on occasion not always been so easy. The total cost of purchasing a full set of hard printed documents without postage is in the region of $8,000 AUD or $10,000 NZD, and historically the ordering of a publication for delivery to our Region had sometimes led to significant delivery costs and then of course a wait for the delivery through the postal system. The Knowledge Portal now provides instant access to search, view online and to download all of the Guides, Commissioning Codes, Application Manuals, Technical Memoranda and more so as you can see the value of membership from the KP is excellent and we believe unrivalled by other Institutions.

This also assists our Region in pursuing one of its core aims within the Strategic Plan of providing education and knowledge at an affordable rate to all.

This substantial enhancement of the membership benefit package reinforces the professional recognition of your qualifications. Member benefits also include professional development training and online learning, networking opportunities through the CIBSE ANZ Regional network and Specialist Interest Groups, free subscription to the monthly CIBSE Journal, the UK and ANZ online e-newsletter and Technical Bulletin.

To renew your membership or join CIBSE as a new member please visit the CIBSE website at http://www.cibse.org/index.cfm?go=page.view&item=69

Next, CIBSE is a founder member of ARBSwho will next year hold its exhibition at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from 7th May to 9th May 2012 inclusive. ARBS have continued to grow, event to event, with each exhibition tending to be bigger and better than those before. The opportunity to visit ARBS only arises once every two years and with it alternating between Melbourne and Sydney, it won’t be back in Melbourne until 2016, so to anyone within Victoria or visiting Melbourne during this time, it will be a great opportunity to see the latest ideas and products. Part of the ARBS exhibition will again be the Seminar Series and the Awards Evening. For further information on all aspects of ARBS Exhibition 2012, please visit http://www.arbs.com.au

2012 will mark the 25th Anniversary of the CIBSE ANZ Region. The marking of this milestone will be one of our biggest events of the year with a special dinner evening programmed to take place in Sydney on Friday, 8th June 2012. We welcome expressions of interest from members, sponsors and their associates who would like to attend the evening and help us celebrate this occasion. We ask that you please forward your details to secretary@cibse.org.au who will be pleased to register your attendance.

Finally, there are so many people that we would like to thank. First of all we thank our own members for their continued support and to them and non-members that have attended CIBSE organised events throughout 2011 and we look forward to seeing you and your colleagues at events throughout 2012. Then to all those presenters, organisers and Committee Members both at Chapter level and Regional level. It must be noted that their work throughout the year goes largely unrecognised. It is their ideas and enthusiasm that are invaluable and we thank you sincerely for all the time and effort that you put in.

A big thank you is also extended to the Sponsors of our events whose financial assistance is very much appreciated.

And finally, ALL have a great Christmas and New Year – be safe and we will look forward to seeing you and working with youagain in 2012.

Warm regards

Peter Kinsella
